Oldham Emerges as Star and Leader in Title Game

The intricacies, both mental and physical, of being a lacrosse net minder are unique and utterly counterintuitive.  "Step In" to a shot traveling 80+ mph is certainly not a natural thing.  But there are those drawn to such a challenge.  Raptor Junior Patrick Oldham is one of those.

A unique blend of athletic prowess and verbal leadership has seen Oldham emerge as a key component of the Raptor's success.  This was never more evident than this weekend's State Championship game vs Brentwood.  Oldham made 13 critical saves, including a 4th quarter kick save on Brentwood's most dangerous scorer to seal the deal on Ravenwood's third straight state championship.

Number 36 is the verbal leader of the Raptor defense, directing the defense as to ball position and play calling.  The demands are high, but Oldham has adapted and grown throughout the 2022 campaign.  When asked, Patrick talked about how the game has come to him.  "When you first start there is so much going on and the game is so fast.  These players can rip it and I'm challenged by our guys in practice every day.  Eventually, the game started slowing down and I'm just seeing things better."  This type of development saw Oldham and the Raptor defense hold Brentwood to a season low 5 goals in the title game.

As is customary for a goal tender, Oldham would like to have a couple of those back.  But having a short memory is part of strong net minding.  And now, he begins to look forward.  "I'm already excited about next year.  Being a senior and helping this team will be a blast.  And helping the younger goaltenders "slow things down" will be a big part of that."
